Dan’s full name is Daniel Oliver Hampton. From 1970 to 1990, he played with the Chicago Bears in the National Football League.

He was born on 19 September 1957 to Robert and Joan Hampton in Jacksonville, AR. Dan has attended Jacksonville High School.

Dan played College Football at Arkansas. He was drafted by the Bears in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft. During the 1978 Orange Bowl, he was a part of the Razorback team.

Later on, he played for the team All-American and logged 98 tackles. Furthermore, he was even named Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1978.

During his college career, he made a total of 237 tackles and recovered six fumbles. Dan was also a member of the Razorback All-Decade team of the 1970s.

NFL Career

Dan was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1979. He signed a four-year contract worth $470,000, including a $60,000 signing bonus.

In 1986, during the four Pro Bowls tournaments, he was a key defensive player in the Bears Super Bowl XX. Dan was a versatile defensive lineman both at the Defensive end and Defensive tackle.

From 1980 to 1988, with only a few year gaps in between, he was the 1st or 2nd team All-Pro. Due to his versatility, he got several post-season honors.

From 1979 to 1990, the Bears defense ranked #1 in the NFL due to Dan’s contribution. In 1982, Dan had a very great year, he recorded 9 sacks in the 9-game.
