David’s full name is David Takayoshi Suzuki. He has been known for his television, and radio series, documentaries, and books about nature and the environment.
Moreover, he is also famous for being the host and narrator of the popular and long-running CBC Television science program The Nature of Things.
David Suzuki Early Life
He was born on 24 March 1936 in Vancouver, British Columbia. His father’s name is Kaoru Carr Suzuki, and his mother’s name is Setsu Nakamura.
Moreover, he has three siblings Geraldine, Dawn, and Marcia. David’s family suffered from internment in British Columbia early during the Second World War until the war ended in 1945.
In June 1942, the government sold his family’s dry-cleaning business and interned him, his mother, and his two sisters in a camp at Slocan in the British Columbia Interior.
Furthermore, his father has been sent to a labor camp in Solsqua. After the war ended, his family was forced to move east of the Rockies like other Japanese Canadian families.
So they moved around Ontario, from Etobicoke to Leamington, and finally landed in London. Before moving to London, David attended Mill Street Elementary School and Leamington Secondary School. Later on in London, he attended the London Central Secondary School.
David Suzuki Career
In 1958 David received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Amherst College in Massachusetts. Moreover, during college, he first discovered genetics study.
Later on, in 1961, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in zoology from the University of Chicago. From 1961 to 1962, he worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Then for the next two years, he worked as an assistant professor at the University of Alberta. Furthermore, from 1963 to 2001, he worked basically for almost 40 years as a professor in the genetics department at the University of British Columbia.
In the early days of his research career, David studied genetics using the popular model organism Drosophila melanogaster.
In 1970 he started his television career with the weekly children’s show Suzuki on Science. Later on, in 1974, he started the radio program Quirks & Quarks, hosted on CBC AM radio until 1979.
Moreover, throughout the 1970s, David also hosted the tv series Science Magazine. Since 1979, he has hosted the CBC television series The Nature of Things which has aired in approximately fifty countries.
Through this program, he has tried to stimulate its viewer’s interest in the natural world. Furthermore, in 1993, David hosted the critically acclaimed 1993 PBS series The Secret of Life.
In 2002, he made a five-hour mini-series on his book The Sacred Balance. David has been actively promoting the You have the power campaign, which promotes energy conservation.
In 1995, he also produced Yellowstone to Yukon: The Wildlands Project for the Discovery channel. It is a documentary series focusing on Wildlands Project.

David has married twice. Firstly he got married to Setsuko Joane Sunahara in 1958. They remained together until 1965 and had three children together.
In 1973, he got married for the second time to Tara Elizabeth Cullis. The couple together has two daughters named Severn Cullis-Suzuki and Sarika Cullis-Su.
