Ron’s full name is Ronald Duguay. He has played 12 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). Moreover, he served as a minor league coach for four years.

From 2007 to 2018, Ron also worked as an in-studio analyst during MSG Network’s coverage of the New York Rangers.

He was born on 6 July 1957 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Currently, he is 64 years old and holds American nationality.

Ron had been playing ice hockey since a young age. Moreover, from 1973 to 1977, during his junior years, he was a part of his home team Sudbury Wolves.

NHL Career

During the 1977 NHL Draft, Ron was drafted 13th overall by the New York Rangers. Ron instantly jumped from junior hockey to the NHL by doing 20 goals in his rookie year.

He played his first six seasons in New York. Moreover, he became famous for his long hair and flashy behavior. Everything was going great until 6 April 1980, when he got injured while playing against the Philadelphia Flyers.

But after some time, he recovered and started playing again. He played in the NHL All-Star Game, representing the Rangers on the Wales Conference squad.

In 1981-1982 he led the Rangers in scoring with 40 goals. However, in 1983 his performance dropped, and he only scored 19 goals.

Moreover, the Rangers coach also had some clashes with Ron, due to which he and two other players were traded with the Detroit Red Wings.

During 1983-1984, Ron was third on the Red Wings with 33 goals and 47 assists. Then in 1984–1985, he was second on the Red Wings with a total of 89 points.

Later on, during the trade deadline in 1985–86, he was traded to Pittsburgh Penguins. Ron played only two seasons in Pittsburgh, and then he was traded back to his original team New York Rangers.

But he resigned from the Rangers in the summer of 1987. After resigning from the Rangers, he tries to make a comeback by joining teams like Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Tampa Bay Lightning. However, he couldn’t make a successful comeback in NHL and finally decided to play in the minor leagues.

Minor league career

Ron began his minor league career by playing two games with the Colorado Rangers of the IHL. Later he played 22 games in Europe with Mannheim ERC (German Bundesliga) during the 1989–90 season.

After this, he returned to the United States again and played two seasons in the IHL with the San Diego Gulls. In 1992 he took retirement.

But after three years, he returned to play for San Diego Gulls. After his return, he scored only eight goals and nine assists in 12 games.

During 1998–99 he joined the Jacksonville Lizard Kings of the (ECHL). But he played only one game and then again took retirement.

In 2003, Ron joined the Jacksonville Barracudas in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. He played six games and then became the team’s head coach. However, after an unsuccessful 2005–06 season, he resigned from his position as a coach.

Other Work

From 2007 to 2018, Ron worked as an analyst for MSG Network’s television coverage of Rangers games. He also appeared regularly on MSG’s weekly Hockey Night Live! program.

However, his contract with MSG ended in 2018, and it was not renewed again. In 2009, he participated in the first season of the Battle of the Blades skating competition.
