She made her acting debut in 2018 with the film Kedarnath. The film was commercially successful, and due to her performance in this film, she won the  Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She was born on 12 August 1995 in Mumbai to Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan both are the actors of Hindi film industry.

Sara is the maternal grand-daughter of Rukhsana Sultana and Shivinder Singh Virk. Moreover, Sara has a younger brother Ibrahim Ali Khan, and her half brother is Taimur Ali Khan.
