Watson is a right-handed fast-medium swing bowler and a right-handed batsman. He made his debut in 2002 with One Day International.

Moreover, he took retirement in 2016. Till now, he is the world No. 1 T20I all-rounder. He was the last cricket player to retire from Australia’s golden era of the early 2000s.

He holds several records in T20s, and ODIs. According to Forbes, Shane Watson is was the highest-paid non-Indian cricketer in the world for five consecutive years from 2011 to 2015.

He was born on 17 June 1981 in Queensland, Australia. Shane Watson’s full name is Shane Robert Watson. His father is Bob Watson, and his mother is Barb Watson.

Most of the people in his family love to call him by his nickname Watto and White Shark. He goes to the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University. Moreover, his favourite subject in school was Health Sciences and Physical Education.

Early Career

He was an  Australian Cricket Academy scholarship holder in 2000. Watson started his first-class career for Tasmania after leaving his home state of Queensland.

Later on, he returns to play for his native Queensland as his international career was beginning. Watson also played for Hampshire in the 2005 English County Championship.

International Career

From (2002-2008)

He was first selected for the Australian team in 2002. After his steady performance, he made his ODI debut in the same year.

He was part of the ODI team until he suffers from three stress fractures in his back. In 2003, he was missing from the World Cup. Moreover, at that time, Shane was replaced by his Queensland teammate Andrew Symonds.

Later on, he again returns to regular ODI duty in the 2004–05 season as a bowling all-rounder. He made his test debut in the third Test against Pakistan as a fifth bowler.

After his excellent performance in those matches, selectors included him as the fifth bowler and all-rounder in all Test matches of the 2005 Ashes Series. But his shoulder gets injured in the second Test due to which he was again replaced by Symonds.

Shane is present in the team for the next Ashes series against England but he was out for the first three Tests due to a hamstring tear.

He was expected to be fit for the fourth Test, and it looks that he will be a part of the team. However, he again gets the injury.

Watson comes back in February for ODIs in which he replaces Cameron White in the all-rounder position. But this time also he receives an injury due to which he misses most of the matches and even tournaments.

When Symonds was set out from the team due to disciplinary reasons, Watson took the all-rounder position for the tour of India.

After this tour over Symonds, again, returns to the team and Watson were dropped. But due to the poor performance of Symond, he was again dropped, and Watson was picked by the team.

From (2009-2019)

In 2009 he returned to Test Match, and in the whole test series, he plays very well. Moreover, he becomes the Man of the Match in the last match of the series.

In the 2010 Test tour, he was the opener in almost all of the game of Australia test series with India. Moreover, at that time, he has the highest Australian Test batting average.

In 2011 he became the ODI vice-captain. During this time, he makes several records including most sixes, highest score by an Australian batsman, fastest 150, most runs from boundaries.

After this, Watson returns for the fourth test match. Moreover, he was also the captain of the match due to the injury of Clarke. After some time, he resigned from his vice-captain position.

In the 2015 World Cup Watson helped the Australian team to reach the final. In 2016 he became the T20 captain.

He missed the second IPL season due to injury and National Duty. In the 2011 season, Rajasthan Royals successfully retains him.

In April 2013, he scored his first century in T20 cricket against CSK. Watson scored 101 runs in 61 balls. In the 2013 season, the second time won the Man of the Tournament award.

In 2014 he was again retained by the Rajasthan Royals for $2 million. Due to which he becomes the highest-paid overseas Player and one of a few international cricketers to play for the same IPL franchise from the inception of the tournament.

He was also the captain of the team in 2014. When Rajasthan Royals was suspended for two years, Royal Challengers Banglore buy him for $1.4 million in 2016. Moreover, he is the highest-paid cricketer in that auction.

In 2017 he became the captain of RCB for the first few matches because regular captain Virat Kohli is not playing that time. Later on in 2018, he was signed by Chennai Super Kings.

In April 2019, he announced his retirement from BBL, but he continues to play for Sutherland District Cricket Club in the NSW Premier Cricket and some overseas tournaments.
